World Wildlife Day: why protecting wildlife also depends on our decisions
Every 3 March marks World Nature Day, also known as World Wildlife Day. A date to remember the importance of flora and fauna and the value they hold in our environment: ecological, social, scientific, economic and cultural.
But beyond the celebration, this day invites us to reflect on something essential: the direct relationship between our decisions and the protection of nature.
What is World Nature Day?
World Nature Day was proclaimed to raise awareness of the importance of wildlife and to highlight the urgent need to protect ecosystems from threats such as indiscriminate exploitation, pollution or biodiversity loss.
It also puts the spotlight on crimes against nature, which have far-reaching consequences not only environmentally, but also socially and economically.
Protecting nature isn't just an environmental matter: it's a shared responsibility.
Nature as the foundation of everything
Flora and fauna sustain the balances that make life as we know it possible. Ecosystems provide:
· Natural resources
· Raw materials
· Essential environmental services
· Landscapes that form part of our identity
When these balances are broken, the consequences spread to every area.
Knowing where products come from: a first step
Knowing where products come from and how they were made helps us understand their real impact. Asking about the origin of materials, production processes and traceability is a way of connecting our decisions to the protection of the natural environment.
When we choose without information, it's easier to unwittingly contribute to practices that harm ecosystems.
Shared values: celebrating nature from the business world too
At Arpe we understand that companies play an important role in this balance. Decisions made at a corporate level, from design to the choice of suppliers or products, have a real impact.
Celebrating World Nature Day is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to more conscious processes and to a way of doing things that takes into account the environment we're part of.
An invitation to look at nature more closely
This World Nature Day, the invitation is simple: look more closely, get better informed and act with greater awareness. Protecting wildlife isn't just a task for institutions or large organisations; it also starts with everyday decisions.
Because caring for nature is, ultimately, caring for our own future.
